About

Meet Molly

No, not the cat. I'm the one in the glasses. I can usually be found with a cat on my shoulder (or my lap, or my keyboard) and a paintbrush in my hand. Most folks know me as Pun-ny, extroverted, and witty conversationalist, but in my quieter moments I can be an introspective curator of the whimsical and arcane.

These contrasting themes come out in my art as well, with bold expressive colors and bright friendly neons. I focus on spirit of the subject(s) I capture, be it person or creature. There's many ways to tell a story, I aim to pinpoint those moments and their energy.

And cats. Always cats.

  • Ideation

Some of my art originates from spontaneous captures of my cats, or from special moments in my life. But for many projects, I plan refence photoshoots where we build on a general concept with the folks I have in the room. I often recruit my friends as models, so friends beware.

  • Preparation

Based on the photos taken, I look for themes and a coherent story I feel they tell. I focus on the color scheme to dictate the style of painting. I prep my canvases in batches with gesso and orange underpainting. Cats and music usually accompany this part of the process. Mainly avoiding pawprints on unsuspecting partially dried gesso.

  • Creation

I usually paint with acrylics, and will often add or subtract elements of my references as the painting unfolds. When completed, I photograph flats of the finished art before coating in varnish to seal the paint. These pictures are used to produce prints and stickers for you.
